About Huaibei City
Huaibei City, which is known as one of China’s important energy bases, is located in the northern part of Anhui Province, between 116023’-117002’ E. Longitude and 33016’-34014’ N. Latitude. Situated in the hinterland of East China, it is surrounded by Jiangsu, Shangdong, and Henan. With a distance of 108 km from north to south, and 60 km from west to east, the city has a total area of 2741 km2. Huaibei City has the Longhai Railway to the north, Beijing-Shanghai Railway to the east, Beijing-Kowloon Railway to the West. It is not far away from the airports in Nanjing, Hefei, and Xuzhou. Xuzhou Airport is only 80 km away. As to the highways, Lianyungang to Huoerguosi, Beijing-Taipei Expressways pass through the area. Only 200 km away from Lianyungang port, Huaibei is the city with the shortest distance to the sea in Anhui Province. In this beautiful and fertile land live Han, Hui, Mongolian, Man, Miao, Korean, and other11 national minorities. The city has a domicile population of 2.122 million by the end of 2006.
Huaibei City Lies in the north temperate zone with a monsoon climate between the north continental and the humid. With a frost-free period of 202 days the city has a moderate climate and four distinctive seasons.
Huaibei City has unique mineral resources -- coal, iron, cobalt, kaolin and nine other kinds. The estimated coal reserve is 8.4 billion tons with a vision reserve 35 billion tons. The installed power generation capacity is nearly 200 million kilowatts.
Huaibei City is also an important base of grain, cotton, oil, fruit, vegetables and fish production in East China. Its agricultural products sell far away at home and abroad. The "Vegetable Basket" project ranks at the first position in the whole province and has been on for 13 successive years. In 1996 it was ranked one of the country’s Three Land Reclamation Model Areas.
Huaibei City, which experienced the industrialization in greater depth and breadth, has formed the pillar industries such as coal, electricity, textiles, liquor, building materials, etc. It owns a group of well-known enterprises and brand names such as Kouzi Liquor. Huaibei City is also one of China’s major textile production and export bases.
In the forthcoming years, Huaibei City will adhere to the concept of scientific development and to let it guide the overall economic and social development.
